Cannes

In honor of the opening day of the Cannes Film Festival, here are some pictures we took when we were in Cannes a few months ago. It is truly a stunningly beautiful place--feel free to picture yourself there amongst the movie stars.

This is the famous Carlton Hotel:And this is one of the courtyard gardens at the Carlton:
You can see the Carlton (and the other famous hotels) on the right of the picture. The street they are on is lined with designer boutiques--all beach front.
Public beach chairs (empty in March). Behind them is the awning of one of the private beach restaurants. The kitchens are built into the boardwalk and the dining area is set up on the beach.
View from the boardwalk looking across to the site of the film festival.
Movie sculpture in front of the festival hall.

Apparently, my in-laws (who live 30 minutes from Cannes in Grasse) were on the red carpet last night for opening night! How exciting is that? My father-in-law said he had 30 minutes to throw a tux together (that isn't one of the things that made his one suitcase limit!). He apparently had to pay 15 Euro to buy a bow tie before they let him onto the red carpet.
